Figuring out how to grow your hair faster can be overwhelming.
We're flooded with choices on which serum, treatment or natural remedy is actually going to kick start our hair growth.
So what if I told you there are 10 simple things you can start doing today to make your hair grow faster?
Figuring out how to make hair grow faster isn't as daunting as you may think.
Let's forget about all the promising hair growth lotions and potions.
(Except for one, but I'll get to that later...)
The foundation of natural hair regrowth comes down to the basics.
- Are you washing your hair correctly?
- Are you protecting your hair from damaging chemicals?
- Is your hair getting the right nourishment?
Read on to discover what makes hair grow, and 10 simple steps you can take towards growing longer, healthy hair.
10 easy tips to make your hair grow faster.
#1 Do not use hair products containing these chemicals
Do your go-to hair products contain the below ingredients?
If so, it’s time to chuck 'em.
Do a spring clean through your bathroom shelves and throw out any products that contain the following chemicals.
If they include the below ingredients, they don't deserve a place on your hair care shelf.
- Isopropyl Alcohol
- Mineral Oil
- Propylene Glycol (PG)
- DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (monoethanolamine), and TEA (Triethanolamine)
- Sulphate
- Silicon
-
Parabens
These kinds of ingredients can seem like they’re improving your hair in the short term.
But:
It’s a bit of a facade.
Harsh chemicals are not a good way to create a solid, healthy foundation for your hair to thrive in.
Instead, try opt for more natural brands like Aveda, Evo Hair, Bondi Boost etc.
#2 Growing long hair starts with the right shampoo and conditioner
[Image: brightontheday.com]
Healthy hair starts with the right shampoo and conditioner.
A great rule of thumb is:
The less ingredients a hair product has, the more natural it’s likely to be.
Try to opt for products with natural scents.
The chemicals used to create artificial fragrances (e.g fruity, floral or vanilla scents) are quite damaging to your hair.
I highly recommend the Bondi Boost Hair Growth shampoo and conditioner which is made from natural ingredients and accelerates hair growth.

#3 Stimulate natural hair regrowth by cutting down on this toxic chemical
Surprise - it's bleach.
We know how bad bleach is for the hair.
But being blonde is just.... so much fun.
I get it.
I'm not going to tell you not to be blonde.
But I will suggest that if you can, avoid bleaching your hair.
Or at least cut back on it.
Even getting your hairdresser to create a subtle ombre at your roots can help you extend the time between bleaching.
With ombre roots, you can let your regrowth grow out longer.
Without it looking like a dark strip down the middle of your head.
I used to be blonde and of course:
Bleaching absolutely killed my hair.
Now I'm embracing my natural darker tones and I'm loving it.
If you're going to be blonde:
Go to a salon that uses Olaplex and use it at home too.
This will drastically save you from hair breakage.
#4 Grow your hair faster with a cold shower
[Image: shefinds.com]
You're probably thinking:
'There's no way I'm torturing myself with a cold shower'
However...
Once you realise what that steaming hot shower is doing to your hair, you might change your mind.
It’s not common knowledge, but:
That nice, hot shower you look forward to every morning or night actually strips your hair of moisture and weakens the hair.
Meaning your hair can break more easily.
What can you do instead?
Shower with warm water first.
Read: warm.
Not steaming hot.
Warm water will cause follicles to open, so this is the best time to clean your scalp with shampoo, followed by conditioner.
To make your daily shower help you grow your hair faster, finish off with a cold rinse.
Blasting cold water on your hair will close your follicles.
This will lock in the moisture and all the good, hair-strengthening ingredients from your shampoo.
Doing this will also reduce hair loss and help you avoid that post-wash frizziness.
#5 Don’t wrap your hair in a cotton towel
Did you know wrapping your hair in a towel can cause breakage?
As you rub your hair dry with a towel, the towel fibres twist and can rip your hair.
Instead:
I just spend a little extra time squeezing excess water from my hair post-shower.
Then I gently pat and dab the ends of my hair dry with my towel.
Alternatively:
You can use an Aquis towel which helps dry your hair fast and safely.
#6 Limit heat styling for special occasions
[Image: brightontheday.com]
Do you use a curler or straightener every day?
Try embracing your natural hair daily.
It's better to limit heat styling tools to those special occasions.
We all know how heat styling weakens your hair.
It's heartbreaking when you start noticing hair breakage from using your straightening iron, curler or blow dryer too often.
There's no doubt that:
Cutting down on heat styling will make a big difference to your hair growth in the long run.
If you have the type of hair that does need regular styling, try these heatless styling techniques.
#7 Try air drying to make your hair grow faster
Boycotting the hairdryer is a super easy first step to improving your hair care routine.
Don’t have time to let your hair dry completely?
At least air dry your hair until it’s 60% dry.
Then spray a high-quality heat protectant spray.
And use a hair dryer on medium setting.
I’ve found this Kerastase Serum to be a great heat protector.

#8 Replace your regular hair care products with Olaplex
I swear by this product for repairing damaged hair.
Olaplex is a hair bonding treatment that works miracles on dry, broken hair.
You'll notice a difference from the first time you use it.
A super easy way I incorporate Olaplex into my hair routine:
- I shampoo my hair in the shower as normal.
- Then instead of conditioner I apply Olaplex to my wet hair.
- I leave it in overnight and all the next day.
- Then after 24 hours I'll rinse and condition my hair in the shower.
I do this once a week and it makes my hair look so healthy.
I use Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3, it's $49.95 and you can buy it here.
#9 Grow long hair with Silicea supplements
My naturopath recommends Silicea 6x strength tablets to me.
Most supplements contain heavy metals, but these don't - which is an added bonus!
They recommend taking 4 tablets, 4 times a day.
I found this made a huge difference to my hair.
You can find quality Silicea tablets here.
#10 Grow your hair faster in a week with this hair hack
This is the best secret for rapid hair growth.
I tried it myself and my hair grew an inch in one week!
It's called the Inversion Method.
It helps stimulate blood flow to your head, which in turn generates natural hair growth.
HOW TO DO IT:
-
Get your hair trimmed first to remove any split ends.
-
Be sure to take a before photo or measure your hair length to compare results at the end.
-
Sit on a chair or the end of your bed, and hang your head between your legs for 5 minutes, massaging your scalp with your fingers to circulate blood flow. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded stop immediately. Use a timer so you can continuously massage without stopping to check the time.
Repeat the Inversion Method every day for seven consecutive days, then leave for a month before repeating.
You can also buy a wire scalp massager as a substitute to prevent your fingers and hands from becoming tired when massaging.
TRY IT
Pick one day to massage coconut oil into your scalp during the Inversion Method.
Leave the oil in your hair overnight to get the benefit of a natural conditioning treatment for faster hair growth.
